, infielder for the Omaha Royals, will represent the United States at the 2009 International Baseball Federation (IBAF) Baseball World Cup in Europe from September 9-27.

Hulett is batting .292 with 11 home runs and 53 RBI in 92 games with Omaha this season.  He played in 12 games in a pair of stints this year with Kansas City.  Tug joined the Royals from the Seattle Mariners in February.  He is the son of former Major League infielder Tim Hulett.

Tug will see a few familiar faces on the coaching staff.  Last week, USA Baseball announced that Royals special assignment coach Eddie Rodriguez will serve as manager.  Former Royal Jamie Quirk will be the third base coach and bench coach.

Congratulations to Tug on this honor!

Eddie Rodriguez to don Red, White and Blue

rodriguez_eddie_5457.jpgRoyals special assignment coach Eddie Rodriguez was named yesterday as the manager of the 2009 World Cup Team.  Rodriguez was the first base coach for the gold medal-winning U.S. Olympic team in 2000.  His staff includes former Royal Jamie Quirk, who will be the third base and bench coach.  USA’s hitting coach, Ernie Young, also had a brief stint with the Royals in 1998.

E-Rod and his club will begin pool play against Venezuela on September 10 in Regensburg, Germany.  Congratulations to Eddie on the tremendous honor of representing the United States at the World Cup!
