Homestand Highlights: August 12-22

The Royals return to Kauffman Stadium on Thursday, August 12 to begin a 10-game, 11-day homestand, the club’s longest of the season.  The New York Yankees make their only trip of the year to Kansas City for a four-game set to start the homestand, August 12-15, highlighted by the 1980 American League Championship Celebration on August 14.  Following an off day on August 16, the Royals host A.L. Central rivals in back-to-back series.  The Cleveland Indians visit for a three-game set, July 17-19, before the Chicago White Sox end the homestand with a three-game weekend series, August 20-22.

·         1980 A.L. Championship Celebration – The Royals celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the 1980 American League Championship with a special pregame ceremony.  Members of the 1980 A.L. Championship team scheduled to attend include Willie Aikens, George Brett, Dennis Leonard, John Wathan and Willie Wilson.  In addition, fans can enjoy videos highlighting the three-game championship series against the Yankees throughout the evening.  www.royals.com/alchamps.

·         Jackie Stiles First Pitch – Jackie Stiles trades a basketball for a baseball for the ceremonial first pitch.  Stiles, who attended Claflin (Kan.) High School and Missouri State University, is the all-time leading scorer in women’s college basketball history and a WNBA Rookie of the Year award winner.

Sunday, August 15 - New York Yankees vs. Royals presented by Sprint, 1:10 p.m.

·         hoops&yoyo Day – It’s hoops&yoyo Day at The K, presented by Hallmark in celebration of their centennial.  Fans can get up close and personal with hoops&yoyo, Hallmark’s popular dynamic duo, as they take in the game at The K.

TRAFFIC REMINDER:  The Royals would like to remind fans that Stadium Drive is currently closed at Raytown Road.  To access parking on the west side of Kauffman Stadium, fans may proceed on Raytown Road past Stadium Drive and will be able to enter the Truman Sports Complex through Gate 5.  To access parking on the east side of Kauffman Stadium, fans may continue on Raytown Road approximately one mile past Gate 5 and enter the complex through Gate 4.

Fans may purchase tickets online at royals.com, by calling 1-800-6ROYALS, at area Hy-Vee stores or at the Kauffman Stadium Box Office.

Saberhagen_Bobble.jpgThe Royals celebrate the unofficial start of summer with a seven-game homestand that begins with a Memorial Day matinee against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Monday, May 31.  Game time is 1:10 p.m.  Following three more games against the Angels (June 1-3), the club welcomes the Detroit Tigers to Kauffman Stadium for a three-game weekend series (June 4-6) to complete a homestand filled with special events and premium giveaways.

Eighties_v2.jpgTonight’s Royals/Angels game has been postponed due to rain.  A doubleheader is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. Tuesday.  All gates will open at 2:30 p.m.  It’s a T-Shirt Tuesday, so come out and watch two games for the price of one and take home this cool shirt!

 

Greinke T-shirt Tuesday: Diamondbacks in town

Greinke_shirt[1].JPGArizona makes their first appearance at Kauffman Stadium since 2003 tonight.  A lot has happened since 2003, including a homecoming for our boss, Mike Swanson, who worked with the Diamondbacks from their start-up until early 2007.

Tonight is T-shirt Tuesday, and we have the most anticipated shirt in Kansas City!  That’s right, we have Zack Greinke shirts for the first 20,000, so get here early!
