Kansas City A’s honored

On Saturday, the Royals honored alumni from the Kansas City Athletics (1955-67).  This year’s contingent was larger than the last few – 32 members of the A’s (players and staff) were on hand!  Fans had the opportunity to have their picture taken with a Missouri mule, which was outfitted with Charlie O’s original blanket.  The first 10,000 fans received a t-shirt, which honored Kansas City A’s mascot Charlie O.

Congratulations to Whitey Herzog, who will be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame today.  Herzog led the Royals to three consecutive division crowns from 1976-78 and is the franchise leader with 410 wins as a manager.  Whitey’s KC connection began as a player, first in the minors with the Kansas City Blues in 1952, then again in the Majors with the Kansas City A’s from 1958-60.

Coverage of today’s ceremony runs from 12:30 to 4:00 p.m. Central on MLB Network.  We’ll have our DVR up and running so we can catch the Royals game (12:05 in New York) and Whitey’s speech.
