The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have acquired veteran right-handed pitcher Jason Frasor (pronounced: FRAY-zer) from the Texas Rangers in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Spencer Patton. In a corresponding 40-man roster move, the Royals designated infielder/outfielder Jimmy Paredes for assignment. The Royals have also optioned right-handed pitcher Louis Coleman to Triple-A Omaha.
Frasor, 36, is in his 11th Major League season and was in his second year with the Texas Rangers. He is 1-1 with a 3.34 ERA (11 ER in 29.2 IP) with 14 walks and 30 strikeouts in 38 relief appearances. Opponents are hitting just .243 against him this season, including a .233 mark vs. left-handed hitters (10-for-43). Frasor has made nine scoreless appearances against A.L. Central teams, spanning 7.0 innings. The veteran righty began his career with Toronto (2004-11, 2012) and also pitched part of one season for the Chicago White Sox (2011). He ranks 11th among active pitchers with 624 career appearances, posting a 31-35 record with a 3.65 ERA all-time.
Patton, 26, Kansas City’s 24th-round draft pick in 2011, is 4-3 with a 4.08 ERA and 14 saves with Omaha this season. He was selected to participate in tonight’s Triple-A All-Star Game in Durham, N.C.
The Royals announced today that they have optioned third baseman Mike Moustakas to Omaha. In a corresponding roster move, infielder/outfielder Jimmy Paredes will be recalled prior to Friday’s game in Anaheim.
Paredes, 25, has played in four games with the Royals this season, going 0-for-1 with two runs scored and two stolen bases as a pinch runner. He is hitting .327 (35-for-107) with 4 doubles, 2 triples, 3 homers and 17 RBI in 26 games with the Storm Chasers.
The Royals announced that three players have been reassigned at Spring Training prior to today’s game vs. the Colorado Rockies. After the transactions, the Royals have 31 players (30 active) in Major League camp.
Outfielder Jimmy Paredes has been optioned to Triple-A Omaha, while right-handed pitcher Jon Rauch and catcher Adam Moore have been assigned to minor league camp.
The Royals announced today that they have claimed outfielder Jimmy Paredes (pronounced: pah-RAY-dis) off Waivers from the Baltimore Orioles. Paredes will be placed on the Royals’ 40-man roster. In a corresponding roster move, the club has designated right-handed pitcher Maikel Cleto for assignment.
Paredes, 25, has spent the last three seasons in the Houston Astros’ organization, playing 118 games at the Major League level since 2011. He hit .192 (24-for-125) with four doubles, a homer and 10 RBI last season for the Astros. The switch-hitting outfielder was originally signed by the New York Yankees as a non-drafted free agent in 2007. The Royals will be Paredes’ third team this offseason, having been claimed by the Miami Marlins on November 4, 2013, and then by the Orioles Saturday (February 15).
Cleto, 24, went 1-2 with a 3.55 ERA in 19 appearances for Triple-A Omaha last season.
