Royals uniform history: 20
Today we take a look at a uniform number and its place in Royals history. Since 20 is a retired number and today is 2-20-2009, let’s start with 20!
Number 20, retired in 1995, is synonymous with Kansas City’s own Frank White, who wore the number as a player from 1974 to 1990 and again as a coach from 1997 to 2001.
Do you know what number Frank wore when he first came to the Majors in 1973? 19. At least for his first 51 Major League games.
Only three other Royals have worn number 20: Jim Campanis (sliding above) was the first to don the number in 1969 and 1970. Monty Montgomery (at left, 1971-72) and Barry Raziano (1973) also wore 20 before Frank. Keep checking ATH…we’ll review a number each month!
