Alex Stops by Hy-Vee…

5-31_Alexs Lemonade Stand_pre-event_selling.JPGBefore heading to the ballpark Saturday to help the Royals snap their 12-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory over the Indians, Alex Gordon stopped by a metro-area Hy-Vee.

However, don’t expect to see a laundry list of grocery items that the third baseman purchased – he wasn’t there to stock his pantry shelves. He was there to sell lemonade!

As the local spokesperson for Alex’s Lemonade Stand, Gordon wanted to be a part of the annual “Alex’s Lemonade Weekend” on June 6-7. Unfortunately, the team is on the road in New York at that time…so, the local chapter of the national program held a pre-event lemonade stand at a Hy-Vee in Overland Park, Kan., so our Alex could stop by!

In case you aren’t familiar…Alex’s Lemonade Stand, the largest lemonade stand in the history of Kansas City, raises money for childhood cancer research. Last year’s stands in Kansas City raised $80,000 for local cancer research. Gordon signed on as the local spokesperson last year during his rookie season. Here’s the PSA he shot for the program this season:

If you missed Alex and the lemonade stand this past weekend, you can still stop by one of the Alex’s Lemonade Stands this weekend, June 6-7, at any Kansas City area Hy-Vee stores as part of the national Alex’s Lemonade Weekend. For more information on the Alex’s Lemonade Stand program, visit

Two Big, Yet Little Royals Fans:

These two happy Royals fans are Kaine and Kaleb Smith, who are turning 1 year old Monday. On Sunday, they attended their first Royals game with parents Ken and Krissy Smith of Independence, Mo., and cheered our Boys in Blue onto a 6-1 win over The Tribe!

Happy 1st Birthday, Kaine and Kaleb!
