Greinke, Teahen receive awards

teahen greinke_7592.jpgThe Royals handed out some hardware tonight, and it was kind of like the Academy Awards – where one movie gets Oscar after Oscar.  We’re referring to Zack Greinke, who had one of the best months for a pitcher in Royals history.  Zack and Mark Teahen received their Royals Player of the Month awards for April.

Zack then received his AL Pitcher of the Month award and his Major League Baseball Clutch Performer of the Month award.  Congratulations to Zack and Mark on their April honors!

Zack Greinke named AL Pitcher of the Month!

8-27 Greinke.jpgThe AL Pitcher of the Month for April is KC’s own Zack Greinke.  He is the first Royal to win Pitcher of the Month since Jose Lima in July, 2003.  Greinke went 5-0 with a 0.50 ERA and 44 strikeouts in April, leading the majors in wins, complete games, ERA and strikeouts during the month.

Zack extended his scoreless innings record to 43.0 innings before allowing his first earned run since September 13 of last season.  He joined Fernando Valenzuela as the only pitchers in MLB history (dating to the early 1900s) to not allow an earned run through his first four starts.

Congratulations Zack!
