Our first “Ballpark Blueprint” is about “Family FunDay Sundays”. Sunday home games in 2011 will feature live entertainment and family-focused activities in the Outfield Experience!

Christmas Eve in July (July 24 vs. Tampa Bay):  Cool off from the hot summer weather with Christmas Eve in July!  Santa and Chilly the Penguin will be on hand.  The first 10,000 fans will receive a Royals Snow Globe, presented by the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Promotional Giveaways:  In addition to the superhero cape and the snow globe, three other Family FunDay Sundays include a great giveaway!  On Mother’s Day (May 8 vs. Oakland), the first 10,000 ladies will receive a tote bag from Hy-Vee.  On June 5, K.C. welcomes the Minnesota Twins.  The first 8,000 kids, 14 and under, will receive a Royals pillow case!  And on August 7, the first 8,000 kids will take home a batting helmet.

Many details and logistics go in to each day of Spring Training.  Take today, for instance – the Royals have a home game at 2:05 Central (listen on royals.com) and a road game at 8:05 Central (listen on 610 Sports).  The clubhouse team will have the jerseys and equipment ready for both games.  Let’s take a look at one of the many behind-the-scenes details, a spring bus trip.

Starting pitcher Luke Hochevar loads his bag onto the bus.

royals_fan_at_ephesus.jpgWe’ve had fans send in photos from the Middle East – let’s take a look!

Mike, Sara and their daughter Elica are a military family stationed in Turkey.  They sent us pictures of a recent trip in which they visited seven ancient cities in Western Turkey.

royals_fans_at_Laeodicea.jpgMike and Sara are originally from Springfield, Mo., and Mike is a long-time Royals fan.  Their assignment in Turkey ends just in time for them to catch a home game this spring.  They’ll then be moving to a new assignment near Los Angeles, where they plan to watch the Royals and Angels later this year.

Service opportunity – Be a part of the Green Team in 2011!

Here’s an opportunity to watch baseball and volunteer at the same time!  The Royals are looking for service organizations that are interested in being a part of the Royals Green Team presented by Allied Waste.  The Royals Green Team is comprised of volunteers and game day staff who collect plastic cups and bottles during the “Green Stretch” in the eighth inning.  Green Team volunteers will also collect cups and bottles during an additional two innings of the game and encourage stadium guests to recycle.

Volunteers receive a free Royals ticket, parking and a T-shirt.  10-12 volunteers are needed for each game.  Participants must be at least 18 years of age.  For more information about the Royals Green Team, please contact Renee VanLaningham (renee.vanlaningham@royals.com).

The Rangers edged K.C., 12-11 in the spring’s second exhibition contest on Monday.  Prospects Mike Moustakas and Eric Hosmer both homered for the Royals.  Moustakas hit a 3-run shot to straight away center in the seventh.  He high-fived Hosmer, who scored on the home run.  Hosmer led off the ninth with a tape-measure blast to right.  Let’s take a look:
