Ned Yost media session: May 27, 2014

Most of manager Ned Yost’s pregame talk focused on the injuries to two young right-handers. Yordano Ventura’s MRI today revealed nothing significant but he will miss his next scheduled start in four days. Instead, Ventura will throw two side sessions before his next turn in the rotation in nine days. Ventura arrived at the ballpark “asymptomatic,” and felt fine today, according to Yost.

Kansas City prospect and one of the top minor leaguers in baseball, Kyle Zimmer, will be shut down for 6-8 weeks with a lat strain. While he hasn’t appeared in the Major Leagues yet, Yost said the team was looking down the road after the All-Star break or in September about possibly bringing Zimmer up if he was throwing well enough.  Yost said the injury is similar to what Ben Sheets, who he managed in Milwaukee, dealt with, though Zimmer’s is not believed to be as severe.
