Ned Yost media session: April 20, 2014

All the talk in Ned Yost’s pregame media chat was about the Kansas City Royals bullpen and the success they’ve had over the last five games. Yost said earlier in the season that he would like to identify another eighth inning guy if Wade Davis would be unavailable but added today that “I think we have a whole bullpen that can complement Davis” and stated there are multiple guys he feels comfortable giving the ball to in big relief spots.

Danny Duffy tossed another scoreless outing and has started the season by throwing 6.1 innings of shutout ball. Yost said there are days when Duffy doesn’t necessarily need pinpoint control because he has such great stuff. Yost also acknowledged he is still figuring out how often he can use the left-hander but he would have no problem bringing him in to protect a lead in the eighth.

The Royals bullpen is decent and has done an overall good job so far this season.
