Ned Yost media session: September 7, 2013

The Royals’ skipper, Ned Yost, met with the media prior to tonight’s contest with the Detroit Tigers.  In what was a short media conference, Yost first addressed questions regarding the return of injured second baseman Chris Getz.  Yost stated that Getz was cleared by the league to play just before game time last night, and will be available today.   Yost then discussed the adaptation that catcher Salvador Perez will undergo to limit the possibility of further blows from foul tips.  The manager stated that Perez will try to situate himself six to twelve inches closer to the batter to change the angle of possible deflections.  Perez may also try a hockey style mask versus the traditional style he normally wears.

The Royals and Tigers meet for the second game of the three game set, with series finale tomorrow at 1:10 pm.  Kansas City and Detroit have split the season series 7-7.
