Ned Yost media session: August 24, 2013

Royals skipper Ned Yost met with the media this afternoon prior to KC’s middle game vs. Washington.  Yost first discussed the progression of Eric Hosmer this season, and how people around the league are beginning to take notice of his potential.  Yost stated that he believes Hosmer is beginning to transition in to the role of a prototypical number three hitter.  “When he first came up I always thought he’d be a number three hitter, and the numbers have definitely bared that out, this year especially.  I think over the last couple months he’s been one of the best hitters in all of baseball.”

Yost then talked about what new Royal Emilio Bonifacio can bring to the table for the club as they look to make a final run to the postseason.  “(He’s) a switch hitter, he can bunt, he can do some things, he can run.  When Toronto went on their good run this year, Bonifacio was hitting second in their lineup, so we’ll see how it goes.”

Yost concluded by discussing the club’s tough 11-10 loss last night.  While the club’s pitching struggle, the offense came back to life.  “As hard as that game was to swallow last night, the one positive was the offense.  It felt really good, it felt like here we go we go we’re getting back on track again.  We don’t pitch many games like that, we haven’t done it all year long, so the key was getting the offense back.  If we get the offense back and going again we could get another good run going.”

The Royals and Nationals wrap up the series tomorrow.  KC will host Tampa Bay in a one-game makeup on Monday.
