Ned Yost media session: August 11, 2013
Kansas City manager Ned Yost met with the media prior to today’s series finale with Red Sox. Yost first commented on what it meant to have catcher Salvador Perez return to the lineup. “In my opinion he’s a Gold Glove defender back there, a middle of the order hitter, he’s a leader on that field.”
Yost went on to discuss the mentality and attitude of the club as it has progressed from their 5-20 May record to their current winning ways. “There was no change in attitude, we were grinding harder in May, things are going good for us right now, but there’s been no change in attitude, there’s been no change in work ethic there’s been no change in anything. We were just kind of grinding and things weren’t working out for us, we were inconsistent offensively. Now we’re a little more consistent offensively and we’re a lot more confident now…when you get enough talent on a big league side and then combine it with experience, you’re going to be in pretty good shape.”
Yost concluded talking of the passion that each individual player brings to the club on a daily basis. “That’s thing that’s so great about our team is that guys like Salvador Perez, Alcides Escobar, Hosmer, Moustakas, Alex Gordon, these guys love to play baseball, they love it, they love playing the game and they bring that passion every single game.
