Ned Yost media session: August 8, 2013
Royals All-Star catcher Salvador Perez has been on the shelf since Sunday due to a concussion which he sustained at New York. Today at Ned Yost’s afternoon press conference he was asked about his catcher.
“He is out running right now, so that is a good sign. He is progressing nicely.” The manager went on to talk about concussion tests now and back when he played. “Back then there was no test. We didn’t know what they were back then. Now they have a much better understanding what they are and the damage that can be done if you ignore them. Sal is an extremely important component of our team. We need to make sure we deal with it right. His was a slight concussion so the healing process should be faster. We are hoping to stay in the seven day range.”
The Red Sox come into town boasting the American League’s best record. The skipper was asked how he wants to see his team respond to a good team like the Red Sox. “It’s a big series for us but we don’t look at it like we will gauge where we are at. We want to come out tonight and compete and ultimately win a baseball game,” said Yost.
