Ned Yost media session: July 21, 2013
Royals skipper Ned Yost met with the media prior to today’s series finale with the Tigers. Yost first addressed the status of second baseman Chris Getz following his knee injury in last night’s contest. Yost stated that if the club needs Getz in an emergency, he is available today.
Yost then spoke of the ability of the bullpen to handle high leverage situations on a daily basis. “It’s just about every day that they come in to high leverage situations, if look at the number of one run or two run games that we play.” Yost went on to say that the staff has confidence in themselves to be able to succeed in any game situation they come in to.
Yost concluded by discussing what it would mean to the club to sweep the division leader. “Our guys play hard every day. We lost two in New York and three in Cleveland, they didn’t lose their confidence. It wasn’t a confidence issue, they were mad that that happened. These guys have confidence in their abilities and confidence in each other as a team. Our goal every day is to win every single day. We feel like we can compete with them, a game in the standings is huge.”
The Royals wrap up the series with the Tigers today and welcome the Orioles tomorrow evening for a three-game set.
