Ned Yost media session: July 19, 2013
The Royals are back at Kauffman Stadium after an eleven day stint away from the friendly confines. The team has made a few roster moves since the last homestand and Ned Yost discussed the most recent transactions at his afternoon press conference. One of the moves the skipper was asked about was deciding to recall Chris Getz and option Johnny Giavotella back to Omaha. “Getz was swinging the bat well down there (Omaha). We are looking for offense. We made the same move when Johnny was swinging the bat well and Getz was struggling. This is the same thing here. We are just trying to take advantage of the hot bat,” said the manager.
Yost went on to talk about why they need hot bats in the lineup, “One big hit can make a difference in the game. That is why we have to have as many hot bats in the game as we can. We are trying to put our best foot forward this second half. In some cases we can’t afford to wait two or three weeks for a guy to produce. If I have the option of playing a guy with a hot bat, that is the option I am going to take.”
