KC’s All-Stars meet with media
Royals skipper Ned Yost met with the media prior to today’s series finale with Oakland. The media conference today surrounded the recent news of the All-Star selections for left fielder Alex Gordon and catcher Salvador Perez. Yost first discussed what it means to the organization to have two players representing the team in New York. “It was a huge sense of pride for all of us. It’s such a special accomplishment to be named an All-Star. I’ve had the opportunity to go to five different All-Star Games and they are once in a lifetime deals. You can’t explain to anybody how much fun and how special the All-Star Game is, but more than anything else is that for the rest of your life you’re known as a Major League All-Star.”
Both Alex Gordon and Salvador Perez were present at the conference, and they echoed Yost’s sentiments. Perez stated, “I was extremely happy when Ned announced that Alex was going to the All Star game, I was somewhat surprised that Ned said he wasn’t going alone, and that I was going along. It’s going to be something special. Gordon followed by stating, “It’s a great honor especially to be picked by the players that’s a big honor. It’s a huge honor for me and Salvy to get picked by the players. I think Ned and Dayton have done a tremendous job in developing this team.”
The Royals begin a seven game road trip tomorrow that will lead them in to the All Star break. Gordon and Perez are set to make their All Star debuts on July 16 at Citi Field in New York.
