Ned Yost media session: June 22, 2013

Royals skipper Ned Yost met with the media this morning before the team’s tussle with the White Sox. A hot topic of discussion was today’s roster move, which optioned Chris Getz to Triple-A Omaha and recalled Jarrod Dyson from the 15-day disabled list.  The manager was asked why Getz was the player sent down. “We have looked at it for two or three weeks now. We had a few different scenarios and this is how it played out. We wanted to keep the extra right handed bat in the outfield with all the left handed hitters we have. Getz still has options and we feel like Moustakas is starting swing the bat better.  So that is why we made the decision to send Getz down,” said Yost.

With Chris Getz getting sent down that opens up playing time at second base. Yost said that Elliot Johnson would get most of the starts at the position. He also noted it is nice to have a guy like Johnson because he can play anywhere on the field.
