Press conference notes: First-round selection Hunter Dozier

Royals’ first-round draft pick, Hunter Dozier, signed with the club today and met with the media this afternoon.  Dozier first addressed what it will be like playing with the expectations of being a first-round draft pick, “I’m not going to put any extra pressure on myself, I’m just going to go out and play as hard as I can, work as hard as I can, and whatever happens will happen.”

Dozier then discussed what he believes his biggest strengths are and how Stephen F. Austin University helped prepare for the Majors.  “My bat is probably my biggest strength, Dozier stated.  “College ball let me grow into my body, and just playing more games and getting more at-bats during the summer and during the college year.”

Royals General Manager Dayton Moore also spoke to the process of selecting Dozier as the club’s number one pick this year.  “We first noticed him early on in the scouting process, his name came across my desk early in the scouting season, and just listening to Lonnie (Goldberg) and JJ (Picollo) speak about his character, his passion to play along with his ability, he was a guy that I was really, really hoped that we were going to get to draft and sign.  He would have been a guy that if we weren’t able to select we would have been very disappointed.”
