Ned Yost media session: June 6, 2013
On a beautiful afternoon at Kauffman Stadium, Ned Yost held his daily press conference in the Royals dugout. Kelvin Herrera returned to the mound for the Royals last night for the first time since being recalled from Omaha. He worked a 1-2-3 eighth inning. The manager was asked if it was nice to have him back to solidify the bullpen. “When he struggled a little bit, we sent him down and that kind of created a little bit of a hole down there. I have always thought when guys understand their roles and have roles they tend to perform more consistent. Not having him down there created some uncertainties to what everyone’s roles were. So having him back fills that hole, we hope. He looked really good last night,” said Yost.
Last night the offense produced four runs. The Royals are 17-5 when scoring at least four runs. Much was made of the shake up to the lineup and the skipper using some advice from the baseball operations statistical staff. Ned talked about how he creates his lineup on daily basis. “We sit down every day and talk about it. I get a lineup from the stat guys every day. I have never used it in its entirety but I use some of it. I consult with the coaches and we look at matchups and a few other things to construct our lineup. We use a bunch of different avenues to construct the lineup,” said the skipper.
