Ned Yost media session: Gordon returns to the leadoff spot (May 28)
Manager Ned Yost met with the media before tonight’s homestand finale vs. St. Louis. Yost decided to put Alex Gordon back in the leadoff position after having him bat third in the order for a few weeks. He was asked why he decided to make the move. “Over the course of this year and last year we have had our best run production with Gordon batting first and having Billy Butler batting fourth. That is why we went back to that lineup. When Salvador Perez gets back we will move him up in the order too. We are going to make a few other changes too but we will wait for those until Sal (Perez) gets back. We are going to see if we can’t find a few more ways to score some runs,” said Yost.
With the current six-game skid, the manager was asked if his team has lost a little confidence. “I sense a little frustration, maybe some are pressing but their confidence level is still very, very high. These guys know what they are capable of and know it is just a matter of time before they break out of it. We are hoping that we break out today. With that said these guys have done a great job of coming here every day working and staying after it,” stated Yost.
