Dayton Moore/Jeremy Guthrie teleconference notes
Royals General Manager Dayton Moore and pitcher Jeremy Guthrie spoke with the media today after Guthrie’s three-year deal with the Royals was announced.
Moore said that the negotiations for the free agent righty started moving more quickly in the last week or so. He cited Guthrie as a consistent pitcher who can continue to give the Royals innings and a player who had the desire to be in Kansas City. Moore said that the club is still looking at upgrading the pitching staff.
Guthrie said that he is very happy to be back with the Royals. The trade for Ervin Santana showed him commitment to winning. While he had interest from other clubs, he sees the ballpark and Kansas City’s defense as great fits for his pitching style. Guthrie thanked the Rockies for giving him the chance to re-establish himself after a tough first half of 2012 with Colorado.
