Billy Butler teleconference notes
2012 was a breakthrough season for Billy Butler as he set career highs in home runs (29) and RBI (107) while also leading KC with a .313 average. He also made a memorable All-Star appearance in front of the hometown fans. Today, he earned his third Les Milgram Player of the Year award in the last four years. While George Brett, Amos Otis and Mike Sweeney won the award at least three times (Brett won eight times), no player has won the award three times in four seasons…until Butler.
KC’s designated hitter said he was locked in from day one in 2012 and is pleased with his season, though he believes he can do more. He told reporters today that he doesn’t know what his full potential is. He’s already preparing for the 2013 season at the Royals Spring Training complex in Surprise, Arizona. 2013 is also going to be busy for Billy off the field as he and his wife Katie are expecting the couple’s second child in January.
