Royals Game Preview: October 2

The Royals play host to Detroit tonight in the next-to-last game of 2012.  Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera is chasing history as he tries to become baseball’s first Triple Crown winner since 1967.  Cabrera currently leads the A.L. in all three Triple Crown categories (batting average, home runs and RBI).  The 7:10 start will be on FOX Sports Kansas City and the Royals Radio Network.

Here’s a look at the lineups:

Detroit:  Berry – CF, Santiago – 2B, Cabrera -3B, Fielder – 1B, Young – DH, Avila – C, Boesch – RF, Kelly – LF, Worth – SS. Fister – RHP

Kansas City:  Dyson – CF, Escobar – SS, Gordon – LF, Butler – 1B, Perez – C, Francoeur – RF, Pena – DH, Abreu – 2B, Falu – 3B, Guthrie – RHP

Trivia Note:  We usually have a Royals-related note…but this note is very rare, so we’ll pass it along.  Miguel Cabrera enters tonight with 203 hits, 40 doubles, 44 home runs and 137 RBI.  It is just the fourth time in Major League history that a player has reached all of those numbers in the same season.  The other three times – Babe Ruth (1921) and Lou Gehrig (twice, 1927 and 1934).
