Royals Game Preview: September 30 at Cleveland

Tony Abreu’s RBI single in the 14th lifted KC to a 7-6 win just before the midnight hour on Saturday.  The Royals look to take the series in today’s 12:05 Central start.  You can tune in on the Royals Radio Network (no local TV today).

Homestand Highlights: October 1 – 3

The Royals finish the 2012 season by hosting the Detroit Tigers in a three-game series, October 1-3.

Royals and 610 Sports Radio Team Up for “Royals Charities presents Royals Weekly” Radio Show

The final “Royals Charities presents Royals Weekly” radio program of the season will air Sunday morning at 6 a.m. on 610 Sports Radio, the flagship station of the Royals.  The one-hour show highlights the club’s community outreach efforts and provides a season-long radio tour of the Royals Hall of Fame.  The show will return to the 610 Sports Sunday lineup next season at a time to be announced.

Royals Trivia Fact:  Aaron Crow has allowed just one unearned run in 14.1 career innings against Cleveland.  Of KC pitchers who have worked at least 14.0 innings, he is the only one with a perfect ERA.  Storm Davis is second as he recorded a 0.52 ERA from 1990-91, allowing one earned run over 17.1 IP.

Royals Trivia Fact:  Alex Gordon doubled twice last night and has 51 on the season, tying Billy Butler for second in single-season club history.  Hal McRae is first with 54 in 1977.  Who did McRae pass for the record?  Amos Otis, who recorded 40 in 1976.

Royals Trivia Fact:  Detroit-area native John Mayberry hit 21 homers against the Tigers, including 13 as a member of the Royals.  He hit two homers and drove in all three KC runs in a 3-2 win on July 21, 1975 at Tiger Stadium.  Mayberry also had two homers and three RBI in a 6-3 win over the Tigers on June 9, 1976.

Royals Hall of Famer John Mayberry

The project was a change of pace for some associates (below).  For Rick Bobki (above), it had some similarities to his regular day at Kauffman Stadium.  Bobki is the team’s lead carpenter.

Royals Trivia Fact:  Billy Butler has 64 career hits at Detroit’s Comerica Park, which ties David DeJesus for the most by a Royal at Detroit’s current stadium.  George Brett holds the KC record for hits at Tiger Stadium with 122.

Royals Trivia Fact:  Royals first base coach Rusty Kuntz played for Detroit in 1984 and 1985.  He delivered the game-winning RBI in the deciding game of the 1984 World Series.
