Ned Yost media session: June 26
When manager Ned Yost met with the media before tonight’s game there was a discussion about who will be the starting pitcher in the final game of the three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays. Everett Teaford will be throwing tomorrow. “He has been throwing the ball good and we like a left-handed match up against this club. He has been throwing well in Omaha,” said Yost. Everett is a fairly young pitcher in terms of game experience and has both started and relieved in the Majors, but the question is will he have the potential to be a consistent starting pitcher in the Majors? Yost says, “I think he does, he has made great strides in the last couple of years. He has really started to make a name for himself in our organization. The thing I like about him is that he has three pretty good pitches and he throws strikes and he competes really, really well.”
The Royals have had back-to-back good offensive days, scoring eight runs in each game. Yost said, “You can put nine guys out there that struggle for a week and then all of sudden come back one day and score eight runs. It’s just the natural ups and downs of the season and it happens every year. We did a good job of winning close games lately. You just have to stay level headed and try and go out each and every day and win a game.” The Royals will be looking to continue this offensive trend tonight.
