Ned Yost media session: May 3
Ned Yost met with the media this afternoon and a topic of discussion was about Irving Falu, who had his contract selected earlier in the day from Omaha and is in the Majors for the first time. Yost stated, the Royals are looking for somebody who can play second, short, and third and he is good at all of those. Falu has played 949 minor league games and he hasn’t worked hard to just be average at one position, he has worked hard to be good at four or five positions as well as being a good hitter from both sides. Falu has put his time in and he has his opportunity and he is excited that he is here, stated Yost.
The next topic was about Kansas City kid Tommy Hottovy and how excited he is to be coming home, putting on a Royals’ jersey and playing in front of his family, especially against the Yankees this homestand. Yost discussed how he was impressed with Hottovy during spring training and still is impressed. Having him gives the Royals another left-hander option that they can use in tough situations. Last homestand, the Royals struggled in the middle of their order and the starting pitching was not doing very well. When they went on the road the two-through-five hitters were swinging the bats well and their starting pitching was looking better. “We are excited about this homestand,” says Yost.
