Ned Yost media session: April 15
The Royals called up pitcher Louis Coleman from Omaha today and optioned outfielder Jarrod Dyson back to the Storm Chasers. Dyson had played the past two games in centerfield in place of the injured Lorenzo Cain. Coleman has appeared in three games for the Storm Chasers this season throwing 5.1 innings and allowing one run on three hits while fanning four and walking two. Manager Ned Yost said the move was done due to the need for pitching in the bullpen. The starters thus far in the series have had short outings causing the bullpen to run a little thin, therefore Coleman was brought up for added protection out there. Yost said Coleman has been throwing well in AAA up to this point and will help as another available arm.
Today, Jackie Robinson Day, is a very special day across Major League Baseball in which we celebrate the life and career of Jackie Robinson. Each player and coach around the league wears the number 42 in honor of the late Robinson who broke baseball’s color barrier in 1947 with the Brooklyn Dodgers and went on to have a Hall of Fame career. Yost commented that baseball does a very good job honoring him as he was a pioneer for the game and it is a very neat gesture that everyone salutes that.
Yost also reports that pitcher Luke Hochevar remains a little sore, but went out and threw a bullpen today, felt pretty good and is making great progress. Injured pitcher Felipe Paulino was sent to Arizona today to get started after being on the DL. He will begin with a 35 pitch limit in a game tomorrow as he builds back up toward returning to the Major League club.
