Ned Yost media session: September 14
Before finishing a quick two-game series with today’s 3:10 contest vs. the Minnesota Twins, Royals manager Ned Yost explained that it’s a balancing act when it comes to evaluating this 2011 season performance and looking ahead towards next year.
“We are still in the process of developing so we are giving guys at-bats, we’re letting guys pitch deeper in games, and giving them more experience-type situations,” Yost said. “When we get to a point where we get to compete, we will play the game differently.”
The young KC squad continues to grow as the 2011 season winds down but for Yost it is all about the experience his rookies are getting and the lessons they are learning along the way. The Royals skipper commends his team for their hard work and looks forward to seeing each and every one of them reach their potential.
“We knew that all these kids could play, we know their areas of weakness, we know their areas of strength and we know what we need to continue to work on and develop,” Yost said. “We try to focus on that every day.”
Yost had nothing but good things to say about Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers continuing their 2011 season with tonight’s game two of the Pacific Coast League Championship Series. Yost was hopeful see certain minor leaguers such as Lorenzo Cain and Jarrod Dyson in Kansas City with the Major League squad but explained that the Triple-A Omaha team has worked hard throughout their season and he wants to them finish off strong working towards the PCL Championship.
