Ned Yost media session: July 19

Heading into Tuesday’s 7:10 contest vs. the Chicago White Sox at Kauffman Stadium, Royals manager Ned Yost commented on rookie right-hander Aaron Crow taking on a possible role in the Royals starting rotation for the 2012 season. Yost explained that he hadn’t spoken with Royals General Manager Dayton Moore about Crow’s possible position for 2012 but that it’s something that the organization was going to take a firm look at. The Royals skipper spoke about the All-Star’s development so far into this, his rookie season.

“He’s [Crow] got a real good fastball, a real good slider,” Yost said. “Being a starter you pretty much have to have three pitches to be successful and he has two real good ones right now.”

Left fielder Alex Gordon will start in the leadoff spot in the Royals lineup for tonight’s game. After experiencing some slight swelling in his right foot from a fouled off ball on Sunday’s contest at Minnesota that caused him to miss last night’s game, Gordon is good to go tonight. Yost shared his enthusiasm about placing Gordon in the leadoff spot.

“Your one, two, three, four, five guys get your most at-bats over the course of the game and I wanted Gordo [Gordon] at the top of that order,” Yost said. “I like what he did before. He’s got a little more pop out of that spot.”

Despite the Royals 5-2 loss against the Chicago White Sox in last night’s game, Yost explains that it’s all about perspective and teamwork for the squad. The skipper commented that the team not only needs to increase run production but use that offense to cover any errors defensively.
