KC Close Up: Nate Adcock

Royals’ right-hander Nate Adcock (Twitter Handle: @NathanAdcock47)comes from a small-town Kentucky upbringing, where he grew to love baseball.  Let’s learn a little more about Nate in this edition of “KC Close Up”.

Nate was born in Elizabethtown, Kentucky (http://elizabethtownky.org/), the eleventh largest city in Kentucky with a population of about 28,500. He resides nearby in Vine Grove, which has a population of just over 4,000.  The towns are adjacent to Fort Knox, a military base that is famous for its gold depository.

Nate was drafted out of high school by the Mariners in 2006.  He was involved in a seven-player trade between the Mariners and Pirates in 2009. In his only full season with Pirates in 2010, he spent the entire year at Advanced-A Bradenton in the Florida State League.  The rookie reliever was acquired by the Royals on December 9, 2010 as a Rule 5 Draft pick from the Pirates.

Adcock made his Major League Debut on Opening Day, 2011, pitching a scoreless eighth inning vs. the Angels.

Let’s learn a little more about Nate and some of his favorites besides America’s great national pastime!

ATH: If you could be on any television show, what would it be and what character would you play?

Adcock: The Bachelor, I would love to be on The Bachelor. That would be pretty neat to go through that, just to be apart of it. It’s a big hit TV show or American Idol. I love to sing, especially when I’m by myself. When I’m in the car I’m jammin’ out.

ATH: Could you sing in front of millions of people though?

Adcock: No, I like to karaoke but that’s about it.

ATH: So if we turned on your iPod, what would your playlist have on it?

Adcock: Brantley Gilbert. Country music…they call me the songbird of my generation. Nah but country music basically, I have a little hip-hop on there.

ATH: If you could take a trip anywhere in the world, where would it be and what would you want to do?

Adcock: Barbados, my mom was born there and she lived there for about two or three years. Just to see what it’s like and just experience it.

ATH: What is your favorite home cooked meal and who from your family makes it?

Adcock: Mom, but I can’t choose one… pot roast, of course. Her BBQ, it’s phenomenal and I’d say her breakfast, any kind of breakfast she makes. I couldn’t wait to go home for the All-Star break.

ATH: Besides Kansas City, what’s your favorite stadium you’ve played at so far?

San Diego skyline (Joanne DiBona, San Diego CVB)

Adcock: I’d say I like San Diego a whole lot. The weather is beautiful, I felt like I could sleep on the grass because it was just that nice. Everything about it was pretty, people were friendly, and good fans. It was nice to be out there. I haven’t been to Boston yet, I’m sure I’ll love Fenway.

ATH: What is your most common nickname you go by from your friends and family?

Adcock: Everybody back home calls me Tater. Just because when I was younger I was hitting bombs and everyone started calling me Tater.

Nate has quickly become a clubhouse favorite this season.  We appreciate his participation and hope that you learned a little more about the Royals’ right-hander in this edition of “KC Close Up”!

Nate was great at the Cards game in StL, he must have spent 20 minutes signing autographs after BP. While he didn’t quite make it to my kids before he ran out of time, I really appreciated the time he took for the fans.

We are wondering if Nate is related to our “Adcock” clan. We also originated in KY, our Ancestors are named John Adcock and Joseph Adcock. Please reply if you are related.
