Royals host online auction for tornado relief
The Royals announced today that the club will host a special online auction with all proceeds directed to Heart to Heart International. The locally-based emergency response organization will then use the funds to support the ongoing tornado relief effort across the southern United States.
According to the National Weather Service, more than 300 tornadoes were spawned by a powerful storm system on April 26-27. These twisters wiped out entire towns across a wide swath of the South, claiming nearly 400 lives, ravaging dozens of communities, displacing thousands of families and causing billions of dollars in damage to businesses, homes and schools. Alabama’s state emergency management agency reported the most destruction, followed closely by Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, and Virginia.
In response, the Royals are partnering with Heart to Heart International to connect people and resources to those affected by these disasters. The club is hosting a silent auction featuring unique baseball memorabilia, including game-used items from Eric Hosmer’s first Major League game on Friday, May 6. Items up for bid, all authenticated by Major League Baseball, are listed below. The auction is now open, and fans will have an opportunity to bid on these unique items by visiting www.royals.com/relief until Friday, June 3.
