“The Rookie”, Jim Morris, to speak at Faith & Family Day on May 1
The Royals are hosting the annual Faith & Family Day at The K on Sunday, May 1. The event, hosted by KCTV5 Chief Meteorologist Katie Horner, will feature a postgame guest speaker, Jim “The Rookie” Morris, as well as appearances from select Royals executives and players. Fans may purchase tickets online at www.royals.com/faith, by calling 1-800-6ROYALS, at area Hy-Vee stores or at the Kauffman Stadium Box Office. Faith Day fans may purchase a Field Box or Field Plaza ticket for $15 or a Hy-Vee Reserved Box, Hy-Vee Infield or Hy-Vee Box ticket for only $10.
Faith & Family Day begins as the Royals host the Minnesota Twins in a 1:10 p.m. contest. Shortly after the conclusion of the game, Morris will address the crowd inside Kauffman Stadium. Seating for the speaking engagement will be general admission, and a game ticket is required for admittance.
Morris’ meteoric rise from a 35-year-old high school teacher to a flame-throwing big league pitcher in three months made cinematic history with the release of Disney’s “The Rookie” starring Dennis Quaid. When coaching his Texas high school baseball team in 1999, Morris made a bet with his kids: if they won a district championship, he would participate in a tryout camp with a big league team. The players came through with a district title, and Morris fulfilled his end of the deal by throwing 12 consecutive pitches at 98 miles per hour in front of Major League scouts. Three months later, Morris was striking out big league hitters for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The movie blockbuster that followed about chasing your dreams and keeping your promises won the ESPY for Sports Film of the Year and was named by Sports Illustrated as one of the five greatest baseball films ever made.
Morris has now been a public speaker for 10 years and has participated in prestigious speaking events such as The Million Dollar Round Table and numerous other speaker showcases. He is also the author of “The Rookie.” Morris is living proof that you can transform yourself if you put others first and find a mentor in life. No longer living in silence, Morris is the best inspirational speaker around as he draws on his own life experiences to inspire others to become leaders and mentors in life and business.
In addition to the Faith & Family festivities, fans attending the May 1 game will also be treated to Family FunDay Sunday events that include face painters, a balloon artist and live family-friendly entertainment in the Outfield Experience prior to the game. Fans can also enjoy the All-Day Play Pass for unlimited activities in the Outfield Experience for just $10. For details, visit www.royals.com/sunday. In addition, all fans can run the bases after the game (conditions permitting) as part of the Sprint Fun Run.
