Ned Yost media session: A.L. Central matchup with Cleveland
Before Monday’s 7:10 series opener with the Cleveland Indians, Royals manager Ned Yost talked about the matchup of the top two teams in the A.L. Central. Cleveland enters the 4-game set with an 11-4 record while the Royals sit just one game behind at 10-5. KC’s skipper confirmed that it will be a key series, but pointed out that every series and game is important.
“That’s the mindset you have to have over the course of a 162-game season. It doesn’t change depending on who you play,” Yost said.
Yost also spoke highly about the atmosphere in the Royals clubhouse. He noted that the vibe is as good as any team he has been around. He praised his squad’s desire to get better individually every day, which is translating to team success.
Kyle Davies will start on the mound for KC Monday night and is looking for his second consecutive victory. Yost said Davies has been throwing well and must continue to attack hitters with an emphasis on location. The 27-year-old right-hander enjoyed a personal 3-game winning streak against the Tribe from early 2008 through the end of the 2009 season, registering an exceptional 2.16 ERA (16.2 IP, 13 H, 4 ER) during that span.
