New Royals Hall of Fame member Kevin Appier enjoying time on the farm
Kevin Appier feels very privileged to be elected to the Royals Hall of Fame, saying that it is a tremendous honor. He has a ton of memories from his time with the Royals and in baseball. Appier remembers both of his complete game one-hitters with KC, including a tough 1-0 loss to the Rangers in 1993 when his lone hit allowed was a home run to Rafael Palmeiro.
These days, Appier enjoys time with his family on their farm near Paola, Kan. A reporter asked if Appier still had “exotic” animals on the farm. While his wife Laurie once had llamas and now has camels, Kevin is content tending to his herd of cattle. Appier has had only limited involvement in baseball since his 2005 retirement – he has helped on occasion with the high school team in Paola.
MLB.com reporter Dick Kaegel reminded Appier that he once came to the press box after the game to make sure that the reporters had his quotes correct! We hope that Kevin will stop by the press box again soon – either on his June 25 induction date or before!
