Media session with Opening Day starter Luke Hochevar
Right-handed starting pitcher Luke Hochevar is gearing up for Opening Day at Kauffman Stadium and looking to start the season off the right way. Hochevar, who will be making his first Opening Day start, is confident when it comes to approaching hitters and is looking to become more of a leader on and off the mound. He repeatedly expressed a desire to establish his own identity as the ace of the pitching staff.
Despite having a young bullpen, Hochevar believes that the Royals have a good, solid group. With a 20-10-1 spring training record under their belt for 2011, Hochevar knows that the club starts the season with a new level of confidence and a belief in the guy next to you. Hochevar said that with a more aggressive focus on scoring runs combined with better speed and athleticism out of Spring Training, it should give Royals fans everywhere a glimpse of what to expect throughout the season.
Hochevar acknowledged that there will be added emotions for Opening Day, but he expects to thrive off those high expectations which allow for him to pick up his focus and makes his role that much more important.
