Three Naturals among 10 players on Topps Double-A All-Star Team
Out of the 30 teams, the Royals were the lone franchise with more than one player to be honored…they had three! First baseman Clint Robinson, second baseman Johnny Giavotella and third baseman Mike Moustakas made up 75 percent of the infield on the squad.
Robinson, 25, hit .335 with 29 homers and 98 RBIs to capture the Triple Crown in the Texas League. He also led the league with 41 doubles and his 1.035 OPS was tops in Double-A. The Royals drafted Robinson in the 25th round out of Troy University in 2007.
Giavotella, 23, led the Texas League with 168 hits and 92 runs. He finished second behind Robinson with a .322 average. Giavotella was K.C.’s second round pick in 2008 out of the University of New Orleans.
Moustakas, 22, was named the Player of the Year in the Texas League for hitting .347 with 76 RBIs in just 66 games. He finished the year with a combined 36 home runs at Northwest Arkansas and Omaha. Moustakas was the second overall pick in 2007.
