Ned Yost media session: September 17
Chris Getz is still feeling the effects of a concussion he received last Sunday at Chicago. Yost said that while the infielder is making progress, he is not ready to take the field just yet. Getz has been undergoing a battery of tests, which include trials on cardio equipment. According to Yost, Getz was doing fine until his head became foggy once again after being tested on the elliptical.
Yost also discussed how he develops defensive strategies, specifically shifts. The manager said it’s all about doing homework and studying for hours in order to put players in the right position for certain hitters. He firmly believes a person can’t make these decisions based on gut feelings, so preparation is very important. Yost and his staff rely a great deal on the newest technology, which allows them to look at charts and videos of a plethora of players.
