Chukars combine for no-hitter
Three members of the Idaho Falls Chukars, Kansas City’s rookie team in the Pioneer League, combined for a no-hitter last night in a 3-0 win over Missoula. It was the first no-no by a Pioneer League squad since 2008 and the first by an Idaho Falls team since 1996. At that time, Idaho Falls was affiliated with the Padres and KC area native Rick Sutcliffe was the club’s pitching coach.
Back to last night’s game…Brian Peacock, a 31st-round pick in 2009, retired the first 16 batters he faced. Peacock fanned eight and allowed a walk over seven innings. Jason Mitchell, a 15th-round selection in 2010, worked a 1-2-3 eighth. He picked up the win as Idaho Falls scored all three runs in that inning. Alex Rivers, a 39th-rounder this year, struck out all three batters in the ninth to earn the save.
Congratulations to the pitchers, rookie manager Brian Buchanan and all members of the Chukars on the combined no-hitter!
