Royals 5K Run/Walk set for September 4
The run/walk, which begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends on the field at Kauffman Stadium, benefits the Autism Alliance of Greater Kansas City, an organization that reaches out to individuals with autism spectrum disorders, and Royals Charities. The 2010 event will also feature a one mile Autism Awareness Walk around Kauffman Stadium that is set to begin at 8:15 a.m. Both events take place prior to the club’s 6:10 p.m. matchup with the Detroit Tigers.
Fans can register for both the Royals 5K Run/Walk and the one mile Autism Awareness Walk online at www.royals.com/runwalk. There is no race day registration, and the run/walk will be capped at 2,500 participants. The Autism Awareness Walk will be capped at 1,000 participants. Registration fees are as follows.

All participants will receive one Hy-Vee Infield ticket to that night’s game (value: $16) as well as a commemorative T-shirt, food and drinks following the race in the Outfield Experience at Kauffman Stadium, and the opportunity to purchase additional discounted tickets for the September 4 game. Runners and walkers are welcome to have family members come out to Kauffman Stadium to watch them participate. Select Outfield Experience games will be open for those family members to enjoy during the festivities.
Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers in the 5K and to the top three finishers in each age bracket. Awards will be distributed following the race in the Outfield Experience. Visit www.royals.com/runwalk for a list of age brackets.
In addition, Royals Charities and the Autism Alliance are encouraging fans to make a donation to help individuals and families touch by Autism. Fundraising is available for teams, individuals and schools with all monies raised staying in the Kansas City area. Donations can be made online at www.royals.com/runwalk, or participants may set up a personalized page through the online registration website to collect donations from family, friends and co-workers.
Royals Charities will provide a grant to be used specifically for autism-based services to the school district with the most registered walkers for the Autism Awareness Walk. Prizes will also be awarded for the most money raised by a team (must consist of at least five individuals) and individual walker.
In conjunction with the Royals 5K Run/Walk, the Royals are also sponsoring a shadow run on September 4 at a U.S. military installation in Afghanistan with troops running in support of the Autism Alliance of Greater Kansas City. Royals Charities will provide T-shirts and bib numbers for the shadow run.
