Royals Back to School Drive set for August 13-14
The Royals will host the sixth annual Back to School Drive to benefit T.A. Edison Elementary School in Kansas City, Kan., on Friday, August 13 and Saturday, August 14. Stacy Meche, wife of pitcher Gil Meche, and Katie Davies, wife of pitcher Kyle Davies, will serve as co-chairs for this year’s drive.
The Royals encourage fans to donate new backpacks and school supplies for disadvantaged children in the community as they begin a new school year. In addition to collecting supplies, Royals Wives and community volunteers will sell mystery bags and autographed player photo cards from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on August 13 and 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on August 14. The groups will be stationed outside of the Diamond Club and in the Outfield Experience of Kauffman Stadium during both days of the drive.
All items collected and funds raised will go to benefit students at T.A. Edison Elementary School, located at 1000 Locust in Kansas City, Kan. The school primarily serves low-income families with 90 percent of students qualifying for free or reduced lunches. It is part of the Kansas City (Kan.) Public School District, which serves the poorest school population in the metropolitan area and whose families have been hit by the recent economic recession and subsequent cuts to area social service providers.
All school supplies sold at local retailers are needed including crayons, colored pencils, folders, Kleenex, notebooks, pencils, scissors and rulers. For a complete list of items, visit www.royals.com/community.
