Royals announce minor league awards for July

The Royals today announced their minor league Player and Pitcher of the Month awards for July.  The winners are as follows:

 Omaha (AAA) – Kila Ka’aihue (1B/DH) and Greg Holland (RHP):  Ka’aihue, 26, batted .343 with 10 home runs and 28 RBI.  He was promoted to Kansas City on August 1.  Holland, 24, limited opponents to a 0.59 ERA while recording 28 strikeouts in 15.1 innings of bullpen work before receiving his first call to the Majors on July 29.

Northwest Arkansas (AA) - Johnny Giavotella (2B) and Chris Dwyer (LHP):  Giavotella, 23, hit .361 with three home runs and 13 RBI.  The University of New Orleans product went 5-for-5 with a home run and four runs scored on July 22.  Dwyer, 22, won the award in his first month at the Double-A level after picking up the Pitcher of the Month honors with Wilmington in June.  He compiled a 2-1 record and a 3.06 ERA in four starts.

Wilmington (A) - Nick Francis (OF) and John Lamb (LHP):  Francis, 24, batted .278 with six home runs and 22 RBI in 25 games.  He hit a game-winning home run on July 7 at Lynchburg and produced a walk-off single on July 11 against Myrtle Beach.  Lamb, who turned 20 on July 10, dominated hitters to the tune of a 0.93 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 29.0 innings.  He was promoted to Northwest Arkansas after just two months with the Blue Rocks.

Burlington, Ia. (A)Carlo Testa (OF) and Tyler Sample (RHP):  Testa, 23, earned his second straight award after batting .311 with three home runs, 10 RBI and 14 stolen bases.  Sample, 21, was 2-3 with a 4.07 ERA.  A third-round selection in 2008, Sample allowed just one hit and three walks over seven shutout innings in a July 17 win.

Idaho Falls (Rookie) – Murray Watts (1B) and Greg Billo (RHP):  Watts, 22, hit .330 with three home runs and 23 RBI.  The Arkansas State product is currently second in the Pioneer League with 33 RBI on the year.  Billo, 20, was 3-2 with a 3.13 ERA in July.  He limited Ogden to one hit over six shutout innings on July 30.

Burlington, N.C. (Rookie) – Ryan Stovall (3B) and Leonel Santiago (RHP):  Stovall, 23, recorded a .330 average (36-for-109) in 26 games.  He is currently on a 10-game hitting streak.  Santiago, 20, posted a 3-1 record and a 1.51 ERA.  He recorded 33 strikeouts while yielding just seven walks in 35.2 innings of work.

Surprise (Rookie)Michael Antonio (SS) and Rudy Brown (LHP):  Antonio, 18, batted .261 in his first month as a professional.  Kansas City’s third-round pick hit safely in his first eight contests.  Brown, 22, was 2-1 with a 2.08 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 21.2 innings of relief.

Dominican Summer LeagueJorge Bonifacio (OF) and Jose Brazoban (RHP):  Bonifacio, 17, batted .422 (27-for-64) with 15 RBI in 18 contests.  Brazoban, also 17, posted a 1-0 mark and a 1.29 ERA in 14.0 innings of work.
