Royals acquire minor league shortstop Rey Navarro
The Royals have acquired shortstop Rey Navarro from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for reliever Carlos Rosa. Navarro will report to Class-A Wilmington.
Navarro, 20, was selected by Arizona in the third round of the 2007 June Draft. Baseball America recently listed the native of Puerto Rico as the Best Defensive Infielder and 12th-best overall prospect in the Arizona system. Navarro made the Midwest League All-Star team in 2009 while with South Bend. He started this season with Visalia in the California League, where he batted .241 in 19 games.
Rosa, 25, was 2-1 with a 3.65 ERA in 6 games this year for Triple-A Omaha. The native of San Francisco de Macoris, Dominican Republic, signed with the Royals in 2001. Rosa made his Major League debut on June 14, 2008 at Arizona and pitched in a total of 9 games with K.C. in 2008 and 2009.
