DeJesus, Greinke co-chair Baseball Equipment Drive (April 23-24)
The Kansas City Royals and the Baseball Tomorrow Fund will team with Royals outfielder David DeJesus and 2009 American League Cy Young Award winner Zack Greinke for the sixth annual Royals Baseball Equipment Drive. The drive is set for Friday, April 23 and Saturday, April 24 at Kauffman Stadium prior to the first two games of the Royals-Minnesota Twins weekend series. This season’s Baseball Equipment Drive will benefit Della Lamb Youth Baseball.
Collection times will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on April 23 and 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. on April 24. Royals Wives will greet fans and collect new and gently used baseball and softball equipment at Gate C of Kauffman Stadium, while Della Lamb volunteers will be stationed at Hy-Vee Gate B. All types of baseball and softball equipment will be accepted, including gloves, baseballs, bases, batting tees, bats, batting helmets, shoes and uniforms. In addition to the collected items, Della Lamb Youth Baseball will also receive a $5,000 grant from the Baseball Tomorrow Fund.
Della Lamb provides low-income families with an array of services including child care, youth programs and elementary charter school education, adult education, emergency social services and international refugee services. The organization serves over 400 inner city youth in the Kansas City metro area through educational, athletic, recreational and cultural activities. This year, more than 130 kids will participate in youth baseball.
The Baseball Tomorrow Fund was established in 1999 to promote and enhance the growth of baseball throughout the world by funding programs, field improvements and equipment purchases all in an effort to encourage and maintain youth participation in baseball and softball. The Baseball Tomorrow Fund averages $1.5 million in grants annually.
