Royals Caravan starts with visits to Ft. Riley, Salina and Manhattan
The 2010 Royals Caravan, presented by Fox Sports Kansas City, will kick off with a salute to members of the military and their families at Fort Riley as well as appearances in Salina and Manhattan, Kan., on Tuesday, January 12.
Hall of Fame third baseman George Brett, former catcher Jamie Quirk, former third baseman Joe Randa and broadcaster Joel Goldberg will tour Fort Riley prior to meeting members of the Combat Aviation Brigade. The visit comes as the unit composed of more than 2,700 soldiers prepares to deploy overseas in support of the nation’s war efforts.
Following the visit to Ft. Riley, the group will meet students at Cottonwood Elementary in Salina, Kan., located at 215 S. Phillips. The all-school assembly, scheduled to take place from 2:15-3 p.m., will feature Royals’ mascot Sluggerrr along with the members of the Royals traveling party.
The group will then attend the 6 p.m. Texas A&M-Kansas State University men’s basketball game at Bramlage Coliseum on the K-State campus. Prior to the game, members of the traveling party will be available for media interviews.
