ROYALS ANNOUNCE 2010 REGULAR SEASON SCHEDULE
In conjunction with Major League Baseball, the Royals today announced their 2010 regular season schedule. Opening Day is scheduled for April 5 when the Royals host the Detroit Tigers in the first of a three-game series at Kauffman Stadium. The Detroit series is followed by a visit from the Boston Red Sox (April 9-11) to complete the first homestand.
The 2010 slate will also conclude at home with a seven-game homestand against the Minnesota Twins (September 27-29) and Tampa Bay Rays (September 30-October 3).
The 2010 home schedule is highlighted by a three-game series against the intrastate rival St. Louis Cardinals from June 25-27, capping Interleague play for the Royals in Kauffman Stadium. Kansas City will also host the National League’s Colorado Rockies (May 21-23) and Houston Astros (June 15-17).
The road Interleague work consists of visits to Cincinnati (June 11-13), Atlanta (June 18-20) and Washington (June 21-23). The trip to Cincinnati will be the fourth for the Royals, who last played there in 2006. Kansas City’s only previous matchup with the Braves was in Turner Field in 2004, while the series in Washington will be the first between the Royals and Nationals. Kansas City played the Expos twice before the franchise moved to Washington prior to the 2005 season. The Royals last played in the District of Columbia on August 12, 1971, when they split a doubleheader with the Senators.
Kansas City’s holiday schedule sees the Royals at home on Memorial Day (May 31) against the Los Angeles Angels, and in Texas on Mother’s Day (May 9), in Atlanta on Father’s Day (June 20), in Anaheim on July 4th and at Minnesota on Labor Day (September 6).
The game dates are subject to change. Times for the games will be released at a later date.
