Zack Greinke retires 22 in a row, tosses one-hitter vs. M's
Last Tuesday, Zack Greinke surpassed Mark Gubicza’s club record by recording 15 strikeouts in a game. Today, Gubie’s name came up again as Zack became the first Royals pitcher to throw a one-hitter since Gubicza in 1995. Only two Mariners reached base today, both in the second inning (Bill Hall on a walk and Kenji Johjima with a single), as the Royals won, 3-0.
This is the 19th time that a Royals pitcher has thrown a one-hitter (to go along with four no-hitters). Congratulations to Zack on another amazing outing!
Zack also became the fourth pitcher in Royals history to record 200 or more strikeouts in a season. He has 202 strikeouts on the year.
