Vote for Butler and Teahen, K.C.'s Jefferson Award nominees
The Royals have nominated Billy Butler and Mark Teahen for the national Jefferson Award for Outstanding Public Service by an Athlete, presented by All Stars Helping Kids, a national nonprofit founded by NFL Hall-of-Famer Ronnie Lott. You can “get in the game” and help Butler and Teahen win by voting on the All Stars Helping Kids website (www.allstarshelpingkids.org) and via text message running through November 15th.
Butler and Teahen join other impressive nominees, including Steve Nash, Mia Hamm, and Venus Williams. Past winners of the Jefferson Award include Oprah Winfrey, U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy, and Bill & Melinda Gates.
Butler and Teahen have worked to serve families and youth in the Kansas City community through their philanthropy. Butler works with the Bishop Sullivan Center, the largest single site provider of emergency assistance in the local area, and created the Hit-It-A-Ton campaign aimed at feeding the hungry. Teahen has donated his time and service as a spokesperson for the Challenger Division of Little League Baseball, providing opporutnities for mentally and physically handicapped boys and girls to play baseball.
