Trey Hillman announced this afternoon during his daily media briefing that starter Gil Meche was placed on the 15-day Disabled List with a left lower back strain. The D.L. stint for Gil is retroactive to July 12, so that means his earliest reinstatement date is July 27. In his place, the Royals activated right-hander Sidney Ponson from the D.L. Sidney will make the start for KC on Monday against the Angels.
