Danny Duffy named to U.S. squad for Futures Game
Royals prospect Danny Duffy, currently a member of the Wilmington Blue Rocks, will play for the U.S. squad at the Futures Game, to be held on July 12 in St. Louis as part of Taco Bell All-Star Sunday. The game will be televised live on ESPN2 beginning at 1:00 p.m. CT.
Duffy, KC’s second-round pick in 2007, is 6-2 with a 2.85 ERA this season. He ranks fourth in the Carolina League with 66 strikeouts. He pitched a scoreless inning at the California/Carolina League All-Star Game on Tuesday.
Current Royals John Buck, Billy Butler, Alex Gordon, Zack Greinke and Luke Hochevar have represented the U.S. squad in previous Futures Games. Buck was with the Houston organization when he played in the 2002 Futures Game. Butler took home MVP honors in 2006, becoming the second straight Royal to do so after Justin Huber won in 2005.
Catcher Miguel Olivo played for the World Team in 2000 while in the Oakland system and reliever Juan Cruz represented the World Team in 2001 while he was in the Cubs organization. Right-handed pitcher Julio Pimentel, currently on the 40-man roster, played for the World squad in last year’s contest.
Congratulations to Danny on this honor and best of luck on July 12!
